The Role of X-Rays When Going to a Chiropractor
The Role of X-Rays When Going to a Chiropractor
To see is to know and to not know is to guess. No health provider should ever guess with your health. That’s why at Reach Chiropractic, when non-pregnant patients come in for their initial consult, we take spinal x-rays. There are two primary reasons why chiropractic x-ray imaging is essential: safety and technique.
Safety
Many practice members visit us because of pain, limited mobility, or weakness affecting daily life. Often, this pain follows physical traumas such as car accidents, falls, or sports injuries. X-rays allow us to identify red flags like fractures or joint instabilities, which are critical to detect before performing any spinal manipulation. In some cases, we may refer you to a PCP or specialist for additional testing like MRI or blood work to ensure your safety.
Even if you have chronic pain with no recent trauma, x-rays provide a clear view of your spinal structure. Many people have congenital anomalies that may require treatment modifications. We also consider medical conditions or medications that affect bone density, such as cancer treatments, long-term corticosteroid use, Crohn’s disease, or rheumatoid arthritis.
Our top priority is making chiropractic care safe and effective for every patient.
Technique Purposes
Chiropractic x-rays help us analyze your spine beyond what traditional imaging may report. Even when a hospital x-ray says everything is “okay,” we can assess your spinal alignment to create a care plan focused on both relief and structural correction.
- Neck and low back lordotic curves
- Mid and low back lateral curves or scoliosis
- Spinal misalignments such as slips, rotations, or bends
- Hip imbalances
- Spinal degeneration or stenosis
- Head and neck posture
When the structure of your spine is off, your function suffers. Misalignments can contribute to neck pain, low back pain, headaches, numbness, tingling, weakness, spasms, and even organ dysfunction. Our goal is not only to relieve pain but also to restore long-term structural health for better function and quality of life.
Why X-Rays Matter for Your Care Plan
X-rays allow your chiropractor to plan adjustments, select techniques, and determine frequency of care. By the time you receive your first chiropractic adjustment, we already know where to focus, what to expect, and how to keep you safe.
